Newman Obstetric Doppler Ultrasound DigiDop II 990R Tabletop Doppler Review

Add to compare

The Newman Obstetric Doppler Ultrasound DigiDop II 990R Tabletop Doppler is a compact instrument for obstetric ultrasounds. It was created to allow an obstetrician to study the flow of blood traveling from the uterine to the placenta — ensuring fetal health.

The creators of the device have increased its sensitivity to allow for an extended depth of field — about 56% more to be specific. Making it more advanced than most fetal heartbeat monitors in the market, but how does it actually work? More information on that below.

Features

For an obstetric ultrasound doppler, the DigiDop II 990R manages to be incredibly effective. Of course, it has a very specific use, but Newman has done all that they can in order to pack as much functionality into the build as possible. Including the following:

  • The tabletop doppler itself is very compact and comes equipped with a micro-screen display and front-facing speakers.
  • It uses extended depth XD probes that are 56% more sensitive than most fetal heartbeat probes.
  • They’ve fashioned a Smart Recharge System™ into the build as well in order to maximize battery life.
  • Lastly, a rolling stand or a wall-mount can be purchased separately to match its dimensions.

Tests Performed

As mentioned, Newman created this particular model of the DigiDop in order to provide an instrument that would be able to accurately determine whether or not blood is flowing properly to a placenta. Pregnancies can result in blocked off uterine arteries, which can result in the detriment of the mother and child.

It’s the obstetrician’s job to determine whether the flow of blood is healthy, or if there is a potential obstruction that might result in complications. With the DigiDop II 990R, that job is made simpler and so much more efficient.

Newman Obstetric Doppler Ultrasound DigiDop II 990R Tabletop Doppler Review

There is no denying the convenience of this obstetric doppler. Of course, it’s not the most efficient (as there are other systems that are able to perform these tests automatically.) However, it can get the job done in the hands of a physician that has been trained to perform such tests.

Pros and Cons

A list of pros and cons of the Newman Obstetric Doppler Ultrasound DigiDop II 990R Tabletop Doppler System.

PROS:

  • Because of the DigiDop’s compact design, it makes for a great on-the-go solution.
  • Newman has done their best to provide as much convenience as possible, as well as innovation in the form of the sensitive doppler, rechargeable batteries, a micro-monitor display, and the optional wall mount/stand.
  • It is patented and proven to be 56% more sensitive than most Dopplers, which makes the ultrasound process much easier.

CONS:

  • There’s no denying that the technology used in the DigiDop is advanced. However, it still uses the manual Doppler method, whereas some systems are able to perform ultrasound tests fully automatically.
