EDAN SonoTrax Pro Fetal Doppler Baby Heart Monitor Review

Add to compare

The EDAN SonoTrax Pro Fetal Doppler Baby Heart Monitor is very straightforward when it comes to its usability. It’s a handheld Doppler device for the analysis of fetal heartbeat, but it also offers the ability to change probe attachments – which is what allows for actual vascular analysis.

Much like the other handheld Doppler devices under EDAN, this is portable and slim in design. However, it does come equipped with a few special characteristics that allow it to compete in the handheld Doppler market. Including the following:

  • Interchangeable Probes — compatible with waterproof probes for fetal heartbeat assessments and the regular (4 or 8Mhz) probes for vascular assessments.
  • Large Backlit display for clear readings in dim-lit situations.
  • Produces Hi-Fi sounds of Fetal Heart Beat (FHR)
  • Long-lasting rechargeable batteries and automatic on/off feature for saving power
  • Built-in Audio playback feature for accurate assessments (as well as an earphone jack for connecting audio output to earphones or a recording device.)

Tests Performed

As can be expected from a handheld Doppler device, the EDAN SonoTrax Pro Fetal Doppler Baby Heart Monitor doesn’t do much outside of FHR and vascular assessments. The interchangeable probes do allow for some flexibility, however. Being that it is compatible with 4Mhz Probes (for deep arteries), 8Mhz probes (for surface level arteries), and waterproof probes for FHR assessments.

Outside of the interchangeable probes, it also comes with the option of recording audio output with a built-in recorder or listening to audio output through earphones. The batteries of the EDAN SonoTrax are alkaline (with up to 8 hours of battery life), and it comes with an automatic on and off feature for prolonging that battery life.

EDAN SonoTrax Pro Fetal Doppler Baby Heart Monitor Review

Much like with most handheld devices, it is impossible to rank the EDAN SonoTrax Pro highly. After all, despite the convenience that comes with its portability and extra features, it cannot beat the portable and automated PVR devices out in the market these days. That doesn’t mean that this device is unusable, it just means that it loses out in terms of features and efficiency.

Pros and Cons

A list of pros and cons of the EDAN SonoTrax Pro Fetal Doppler Baby Heart Monitor.

  • As is the case of all handheld doppler devices, the EDAN SonoTrax Pro’s winning feature is the fact that it is incredibly portable. That makes it a very convenient device to have in terms of on-the-go assessments.
  • It also helps that EDAN offers interchangeable probes, which varies its testing flexibilities. Not just because it can perform different levels of FHR assessments but different levels of vascular assessments as well.
  • The battery life is a solid 8 hours, with a helpful smart-feature that turns the machine on and off automatically.
  • Finally, it produces crisp and clear sounds with internal speakers and has a built-in earphone jack for listening to audio output.

  • Much like what was said in the conclusion, there is no denying that the EDAN SonoTrax Pro is a good handheld device. However, it cannot compare to the more automated machines in the market. Some of which are not only portable but can also record dual-ankle PVR automatically and conduct in-depth ABI assessments in 3 minutes or less.
